Its just not right!
While Minnesota families, communities, schools and state government go broke, motorized recreation is flush with significantly increased public funding in 2009.
Five facts:
- Every time you buy gas you help pump millions in public funds into DNR accounts for ATVs, dirt-bike motorcycles, snowmobiles, four-wheel drive trucks and motorboats
- $188 million in gas tax revenue was diverted to motorized recreation since 1994.
- And that amount will increase to $20 million each year, $42 each biennium, in 2009.
- Gas tax diversions to motorized recreation appear to violate Minnesota's Constitution
- Gas tax promotion of motorized recreation is damaging and polluting our environment. Off-road vehicles generate a disproportionate amount of greenhouse gasses.
With a $5.2 billion deficit, and our need to reduce global warming,it's just not right
to spend $20 million in public funds each year to promote motorized recreation.
