Senate File 0005 and House File 0023 propose a ten-cent per gallon increase in Minnesota's gas tax. Under current formulas, this would increase Minnesota's public funding of snowmobiles, ATVs, dirt bike motorcycles, off-road four-wheel drive trucks, jet-skis and motorboats by roughly 33%, to over $20 million annually! We need better roads, not more damage.
Why should Minnesotans pay more at the pump for more noise, fumes, danger to others, and environmental damage? Funding of motorized recreation without protective standards has done more harm than good to Minnesota as we continue to suffer widespread damage to precious lands and limited natural resources, and the steady loss of peaceful and quiet places. Tell your legislators you cannot support an increase in the gas tax as long as it means an increase in motorized recreation funding. Tell them to write motorized recreation out of the gas tax increase and implement MRR's Five Standards for Protecting Minnesota, or vote "NO on Senate File 0005 and House File 0023!"
