MRR's Role and Responsibility at the Legislature
(reprinted from Spring, 2003 issue of MRR's The Voice.)
MRR’s unique mission to protect our environment and quality of life from the unwanted effects of motorized recreation challenges us with a unique responsibility in the legislative process. As we make our way through another legislative session we are reminded that:
- MRR’s work at the legislature is mission driven. Our understanding of and solutions to multiple and various motorized recreation problems is driven by our mission and our data-driven approach, not by political realities.
- MRR’s mission makes us responsible for advocating the most comprehensive, informed solutions to motorized recreation problems.
- MRR’s mission allows us to challenge motorized recreation institutions without apology. We are careful not to disempower ourselves by seeking to represent the “lowest common denominator” of change acceptable to the motorized recreation status quo. We do not parse out our political agenda, planning to come back next time to ask for what we really want.
