- MRR Members Call on DNR and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to Withhold Funds and Permits -
Finland - Following a history of violations of federal and state wetlands regulations and DNR grant-in-aid rules a local snowmobile club in Lake County has bulldozed another illegal trail in the Finland State Forest. The Finland State Forest is home to the controversial DNR "prototype" Moosewalk/Mooserun ATV trail where another local club, the Silver Trail Riders, caused "unauthorized wetland impacts", including severe damage to a spruce-cedar forest, at 30 locations, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. In response, local members of Minnesotans for Responsible Recreation, are calling on DNR Commissioner Gene Merriam to immediately withhold state funding from these local clubs who are doing the damage. MRR members are also calling on the U.S. Corps of Engineers to hold these clubs accountable for repairing damage and to deny a permit allowing the Silver Trail Riders to fill an additional 6.3 acres of wetland in the state forest.
