Quiet, Safe, Clean Waters Campaign
Goal
: Regulate high-powered watercraft on surface waters throughout the state so that every Minnesotan has access to quiet, safe, and clean lakes and rivers nearby for their enjoyment, use, and recreation.
2001 – 2002 Objectives:
New Quiet Lakes and Rivers: Educate and organize local citizens to craft, implement, and enforce surface water use restrictions on identified lakes or rivers
- Distribute 1000 Quiet, Safe, Clean Waters Packets to Minnesotans statewide
- Build support for an ongoing Quiet, Safe, Clean Waters campaign among at least 20 recreational, watershed, fishing, property, and business groups
Strategies
Education
- Produce "Education and Action" packets for citizens and communities wanting to regulate high-powered watercraft on local surface waters
- Distribute packets statewide at fairs, lake association meetings, other events, & via the mail and MRR website
- Develop and maintain "Quiet, Safe, Clean Waters" information and updates on MRR’s website
Outreach/Organizing/Campaign Coordination
- Identify individuals, groups, and communities and collaborate with current water activists and local leaders to implement workshops in communities interested in instituting surface water restrictions
- Facilitate drafting, submission, approval and enforcement of local surface water restrictions
- Build MRR membership to strengthen MRR’s voice and financially support ongoing "Quiet, Safe, Clean Waters" campaign
Media/Communications
- Distribute campaign information and updates via lakes and rivers publications
- Provide all media w/educational materials, program and project updates, and local citizens with personal stories to tell
- Utilize MRR’s printed materials, website, and membership as a resource clearinghouse for increasing the number of quiet, safe, clean lakes and rivers in Minnesota
